About Wilhelm

THE  ORIGINAL  SILHOUETTE  HUMORIST

Est. 1880

WILHELM STAEHLE is a horribly disfigured gentleman who often frightens small children when passing by. While hermitting himself in his sprawling estate on the western coast of the Americas, he divides
his free time between sporting for fox hunters and dressing his broad collection of taxidermy. He also finds time to craft silhouettes. He begs you to enjoy them. Or at least refrain from informing him if you do not.

SHORT STORIES

—————————————————

I’m currently working on a few short children’s books of fables though, regrettably, I cannot share the work with you just yet. A short story I crafted called The Nine Lives of the Tragic Tomcat is available through the fabulous Italian publisher, Un Sedicesimo, and can be purchased through their site, if interested.

Exhibition: Selected Cuts

At Hibbleton Gallery, California — photographs by A. Feaver

My first solo gallery show was at the fantastic Hibbleton Gallery. It was a perfectly rainy and gloomy night in California which started with live music and good food, and ended at an underground bar with absinthe.
The show consisted of large framed works, smaller works, as well as cut paper dioramas in bell jars, and even some laser-cut deer heads. Good times were had by all. I’m sorry you missed it.

Pop-Up Shop: Widows & Orphans

At The Type Director’s Club in New York — photos by M. Turzanski

I was very honored to have been invited to have a show in New York, at the one and only Type Director’s Club. My Widows & Orphans show was a one-of-a-kind typography-based exhibit and pop-up shop.
The show / shop featured both large and small framed pieces as well as limited edition pillowcases, lightboxes and, my favorite of all, type designer paper-doll in-action figures. A rather hot seller.
